Overview
Joshua Redman is one of the most acclaimed and respected jazz artists of our generation. As renowned for his musicianship as he is for his ability to assemble talent, Redman’s bands have included Brian Blade, Christian McBride, Brad Mehldau, and Larry Grenadier. His latest album, Words Fall Short, is a collection of previously unheard originals brought to life by inspiring new collaborators: bassist Philip Norris, drummer Nazir Ebo, and pianist Paul Cornish.
Opening the evening is vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa, winner of the 2021 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. Steeped in the blues and soul traditions of New Orleans and shaped by modern jazz improvisation, her singing carries both echoes of the past and a fresh, contemporary voice. She appears with her quartet—Dave Miller (guitar), Lex Warshawsky (bass), and Kyle Swan (drums)—before Redman takes the stage.
